Oh this child of mine has tested me this week!! Day after day he has thrown fits over nothing, burst into tears of rage or sadness for petty reasons (yeah, I know...he's at that age) and had me in tears one day because he was so uncooperative all day (okay, I was at that time of month too so maybe that's a contributing reason to me being teary).
Anyway, just when I think we've hit the terrible twos and they're here to stay, I have a night with Silas tonight where I see the sweet, kind-hearted child that I so dearly love and get a renewed sense of maybe-I'm-doing-something-right feeling that warms my heart and makes me so proud.
I think I've mentioned recently that Silas has been a Daddy's boy. Well the phase continue and each night he likes to rock with Daddy while I sit on the stool in front of the rocking chair reading them books and saying our prayers. Tonight we were reading two of Silas' favorite books and Jake and I were impressed to find out he could fill in the blanks! One of his books says, "I love your hair and eyes...I love your giggles and cries....I love your fingers and toes....I love your ears and nose" etc. I would say, "I love your..." and he'd fill in the blank and point to the body part or make a giggle/crying sound. It was so funny! And when we finished his two books, he put his hands together to pray (um, yes, MELTED MY HEART)and we went through each family member and each of our cats and my parent's cats. After each person (or cat), Silas would say, "yeah..." as if he was agreeing with me. When we finished praying he said, "Nigh nigh, Mommy" and "I love you" How much sweeter could he possibly be????
One of his teachers at daycare told me he walked up to her, hugged her leg and told her he loved her. She said she nearly cried, she thought it was so sweet!!
Silas frequently talks about Papa, MawMaw and Kiki (Silas' names for my parents and sister)and their cats. Who knows what's going on in his little head, but something will remind him of them or he'll see their picture and start talking about them and then we have to go through the whole family (cats included). And he LOVES to skype with them and often asks for them when he sees my computer.
We made a last minute trip to Iowa City a couple weekends ago to watch Kellee's dance competition in Cedar Rapids (just a quick, overnight visit). We didn't tell Silas where we going and he slept most of the way but woke up when we got off on their exit. He looked around at the intersection (still quite a ways from their house) and said, "Papa house?" Jake and I looked at each other completely shocked that he knew where were. The closer we got to their house, the more he said, "Papa house?" When Silas saw Kellee come home, he ran to her and said over and over, "Kiki home! Kiki home!" and when my parents got there, he was beyond thrilled to see them and immediately wanted to play football with his Papa. I think he loves being in Iowa City just as much as Jake and I do. I'm glad he feels like it's his second home they way we do. I don't know if he's happier than when he has all of us together....especially when he's with his Papa. Silas and his Papa have such a special bond and I think even Jake and I come in second to his Papa. :)
That's all for now! Still no pictures to post...we haven't really gotten to do much and haven't even gotten to go sledding yet as there either hasn't been enough snow or it's been to bitterly cold and windy when we did get a few inches. I'm still wanting to get him out there to sled!!
