Today's appointment brought about some happy news. Any progress is any department gets me all too excited, but here's the update: I am now 3-4cm dilated! She asked if I wanted her to strip my membranes (why are docs so excited to do this?) and I said, "I've heard that's kind of painful and not always successful..." and to that she said, "Well I'm already doing it!" Uh....okay, doc! She told us if it was going to work, I'd start contracting within 48 hours - so here the wait begins. :)
She also asked us if we wanted to go ahead and schedule an induction for next week. Wow - how tempting! Last week Jake spoke up and said no, we didn't want an induction but this week we were somewhat frozen in place at the idea of seeing our baby boy NEXT WEEK!! After much hesitation and with a somewhat sad look on my face, I said no. We set up our next OB appointment on Wednesday, my due date, and decided to go from there.
I just talked to one of my besties, Marcie, and told her that my discomfort with the back pain, working 12-hour shifts, not be comfortable in bed, etc. seems so minor and not really a good enough excuse to induce at this point. I'm not past my due date and really at this point, it's more just being anxious and ansy. I can suffer a little longer if it means he comes on in his own time.
So with that, we continue to wait. Jake seems to be a little more on edge - we ran to Hy-Vee after my appointment to pick up a few things and as we were checking out I said, "OH!!! I wonder if they have daffodils!" That "OH!!!" was enough to make his heart jump out of his chest and he spun around so fast - he thought for sure I was in labor. It gave us a good laugh. And it makes me wonder, does labor really start that quickly...like with a "Oh!" and then I'm in labor? I would think only something like that would happen if my water broke and there was a huge gush. Is a contraction really going to *BAM*, hit me? Who knows. It's different for everyone, I guess. These are just rhetorical questions, no need to answer. I'm just thinking outloud. :)
I'll keep you posted, friends and family! Could be any day now....or wait, it could've been any day for the past 3 weeks according to EVERYone. ;)
